For over three decades, Clarins has consistently focused on plant-based brightening solutions. In 2025, the brand takes this commitment forward with the launch of two new products – Bright Plus [Advanced] Serum and Serum-in-Lotion. These formulas introduce a new approach to brightness, one that highlights the importance of achieving a visibly even skin tone instead of relying solely on surface radiance.
The launch is backed by a scientific discovery developed through a partnership between Clarins Research and a leading international scientific research institute in Paris. The study identified the role of caveolae – protein groupings found inside melanocytes — in the distribution of melanin. When caveolae levels decrease due to stressors like UV exposure, pollution, or ageing, melanin spreads unevenly across the skin. This results in an irregular skin tone that impacts how brightness is perceived. The findings were published by Springer Nature.
In addition to this research, Clarins conducted a typology study involving 180 Chinese women with both even and uneven skin tones. The results provided a clearer understanding of how skin tone affects the perception of brightness. According to Clarins, “The evenness of skin tone plays a major role in how bright skin is perceived to be.” The study revealed that an even skin tone made the skin appear 29% brighter, reinforcing the brand’s focus on skin clarity and tone balance.
To support this approach, Clarins introduced its [EVENNESS BOOSTING] TECHNOLOGY powered by purple tea extract. Grown at altitudes between 1500 and 2000 metres, the purple tea plant has adapted to constant UV exposure by producing antioxidant-rich polyphenols. These antioxidants help protect the skin and promote a more even tone. Tests show that the purple tea extract can increase the number of caveolae by 130%, helping regulate melanin distribution and improving the appearance of skin evenness.
The Bright Plus [Advanced] Serum combines plant-based ingredients with proven molecules such as niacinamide and a vitamin C derivative. The formula targets multiple skin concerns through five key actions. It evens out skin tone with the help of Evenness Boosting Technology and caveolae-increasing power. Organic elder extract and niacinamide work together to soothe and target imperfections, while acerola seed extract, rich in vitamin C, restores radiance. The serum also reduces dullness with a blend of lady’s mantle, organic sea lily, niacinamide, and the vitamin C derivative. Additionally, acerola seed extract helps address sallowness by limiting glycation, offering a comprehensive approach to skin improvement.
The Serum-in-Lotion complements the serum with its essence-like texture using the same ingredients. It evens the skin tone with Evenness Boosting Technology, refines texture and mattifies with the help of hibiscus flower acids and organic alpine willowherb, and reduces dullness and dark spots through niacinamide, lady’s mantle, sea lily, and acerola.
When used together, the serum and serum-in-lotion are designed to improve overall skin brightness in a visible and progressive way. Clarins promises more radiant skin within 7 to 14 days. According to user feedback, 94% said the serum-in-lotion boosted the efficiency of the serum, and 92% felt that the duo improved the skin’s brightness.
This new launch brings together research, nature, and tested performance. With a clear focus on even tone, visible clarity, and long-term results, Clarins strengthens its position in brightening skincare with a formula that goes beyond appearances and focuses on what’s happening beneath the surface.
