Sneakers stand as the epitome of versatility, effortlessly blending style with comfort. When infused with a subtle twist, they become even more stylish. Fashion brand, Extra Butter, has recently unveiled a captivating collection of cricket-inspired sneakers in collaboration with Adidas, marking the latest chapter in their longstanding partnership, which has already seen the success of eight collaborative projects.
This striking sneakers draw inspiration from the shared passion for cricket of Extra Butter’s co-founders and brothers, Ankur and Nick Amin. The Amin brothers, much like countless others in India, have an enduring love for cricket, fostered through the captivating tales of legendary players like Sunil Gavaskar and their astounding achievements on the field. Growing up, they also had the privilege of witnessing the ascent of cricketing elites such as Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, who took Indian cricket to unprecedented global heights.
These unique sneakers will be available starting November 4, 2023, at Extra Butter’s Mumbai flagship store located in Utopia City, Lower Parel, and through the brand’s dedicated Indian e-commerce platform. The timing of this launch aligns with India’s hosting of the 2023 Cricket World Cup, creating a perfect opportunity for Extra Butter to express their appreciation for the nation’s profound love affair with the sport that unites millions of hearts across the country.
The highlight of the Extra Butter X Adidas collaboration is undeniably the Adidas Cable-Knit 2.0 SC Premiere footwear, which comes in a striking white and cricket-ball red color scheme. Notably, the original Cable-Knit SC Premiere was a brainchild of Extra Butter’s own designers, Bernie Gross and Jeff Staple, in collaboration with Adidas’ design team. It marked a groundbreaking moment in sneaker design, as it was the first instance where the cable-knit fabric was used as the shoe’s upper material.
Speaking about the collection and collaboration with Adidas for this collection, Extra Butter’s Co-Founder and CEO, Ankur Amin, says, “What excites me about the opportunity in India is the chance to tell some personal stories that are meaningful to me and my brother, as New Yorkers of Indian origin. I’m grateful to Adidas for giving us our first opportunity.”
The 2.0 version of this iconic footwear draws its inspiration from the rich heritage of cricket, particularly the sport’s timeless elegance and distinctive style that has seamlessly transitioned into the realms of luxury and fashion. The shoe’s design is laden with subtle references, including the first-ever appearance of the Adidas name in Hindi on the shoe’s uppers. Furthermore, it features the years when India achieved victory in the Cricket World Cup discreetly etched on the medial side of the shoe.
In addition to the footwear, the collection encompasses a wide range of clothing, such as a captivating club blazer, pants, a vest, and a full-sleeve sweater, all crafted from the iconic cable-knit material synonymous with cricket attire. The standout piece is a short-sleeved cable-knit button-up shirt. The collection is further complemented by a variety of essential streetwear items, including T-shirts and caps, offering a well-rounded and stylish ensemble for fashion-conscious enthusiasts.
