Mumbai’s rooftop dining landscape has matured considerably since the early 2010s, moving beyond decorative spaces with views toward venues that prioritize culinary substance and design cohesion. JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar has opened EL – The Portal to Elsewhere, marking the property’s most significant F&B expansion since its 2015 launch, signaling its intent to compete in the city’s increasingly sophisticated rooftop segment.

Access to EL follows a deliberate design philosophy. Guests ascend a purposefully constructed staircase before reaching the venue, creating a transitional experience that separates the arrival from the street-level entry. Once inside, the environment relies on contemporary design frameworks, with lighting and music systems that adjust throughout service hours.

Three operational zones structure the space. BubbEl Room serves as a Champagne-focused area for smaller groups and celebrations. An Indoor Bar anchors the venue’s beverage service, concentrating on premium spirits and cocktail execution. Open Sky Dining provides exterior seating where guests can dine with city views, completing the spatial progression from intimate to expansive.

Culinary programming draws from Japanese, South American, and Mediterranean techniques, reflecting a fusion strategy. Featured dishes include citrus-accented tiraditos, charcoal-grilled preparations with global influences, and shareable tapas built for extended dining sessions. Plating emphasizes communal consumption rather than individual courses.

Organized as “Elevated Cocktails for Another World,” drinks are categorized into Citrusy and Fruity for bright profiles, Floral and Herbal for botanical complexity, and Strong and Stirred for spirit-forward compositions. Signature cocktails, named for memory, include Enchanted incorporating truffle, Topamine balancing smoke and tartness, Elixir built on aromatic herbs, and Asgardian featuring warming, nutty notes.

Sachin Mylavarapu, General Manager of JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar, said, “With EL, we’re reimagining what a bar experience can mean within the context of modern luxury. JW Marriott Sahar has always been synonymous with exceptional hospitality, but this launch takes that promise to new heights, literally and creatively. EL is designed to become more than just a venue; it’s an experience that embodies the evolution of the brand. It’s a space that evokes emotion and curiosity, where our guests can rise above the everyday and connect through flavour, music, and design. With EL, we wanted to craft a destination that feels both elevated and effortless, redefining how the city experiences rooftop dining.”

JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar has built its market position around culinary programming since opening, with existing venues like Dashanzi for Sichuan cuisine and Bombay Baking Company establishing the property’s F&B credentials in the Andheri East corridor. EL represents a strategic expansion into the rooftop category, where both hotel guests and local clientele can relax and revel.
