Punit Balana’s new store in New Delhi brings Jaipur’s authenticity to the capital

Johari 2.0, Punit Balana’s latest collection, debuts alongside the store opening.

Jaipur-based designer Punit Balana has launched a new store in New Delhi, nestled in the Ambawatta complex within Mehrauli’s Qutub Gardens. The 1,600 square-foot space seamlessly blends the traditional aesthetics of Jaipur with a modern design sensibility, bringing a unique touch to the capital. Mr. Balana reveals that this move wasn’t made on a whim. “I’ve had my eye on this exact address for four years,” he says. “It’s been worth the wait. This store isn’t just about retail—it’s about creating an experience that feels like stepping into the Punit Balana universe.”

The store has been designed by Mr. Balana himself, featuring arched doorways, custom terrazzo flooring, and antique brass elements. The interiors are intentionally minimal and warm, echoing the calmness of a personal space rather than the formality of a retail outlet. The goal is to make visitors feel like they’ve stepped into a space that reflects the designer’s creative process, rather than just a showroom.

Throughout the space, elements from previous collections are subtly included. A mirror edged with Chaandi Tille Ka Kaam from the Johari Bazaar collection, chandeliers with coin work from the 80-kali lehenga, and a sculptural fern created from leftover bandhani fabric and hangers offer quiet reminders of past works. These pieces add familiarity and also bring attention to Mr. Balana’s approach to material use and detail.

Coinciding with the store launch is Johari 2.0, a continuation of Mr. Balana’s well-received Johari collection that originally launched in October 2024. This new version introduces updated silhouettes and fresh shades, while keeping the original collection’s focus on Jaipur’s visual and cultural references. Colours like baingani and raani pink are now joined by soft lilac and Jaipurwala gulaabi, chosen to reflect the mood of summer.

New silhouettes include structured blouses, flowy sarees, and rompers. The Ghagri Maxi has been reimagined in a more playful format. The use of metallic tissue fabrics and airy styles offers a balance between comfort and occasion wear. Mr. Balana said, “Johari 2.0 is a continuation of my journey with this concept. There was so much more I wanted to explore, from the architectural influences to the rich textile traditions. This collection brings those elements to life in a way that feels modern yet deeply connected to our heritage. It is perfect for the summer bride and groom, her bridesmaids, and anyone who appreciates timeless craftsmanship.”

The collection also introduces a menswear segment featuring relaxed kurtas in dusty tones. Designed for the modern groom and his friends, the pieces focus on easy style without losing elegance. The overall colour palette remains vibrant yet soft, with pastel shades balancing out the more saturated hues. Kalamkari and Mughal-inspired prints carry forward the visual language Mr. Balana is known for.

The store offers occasion and festive wear collections, with stylists available for personal consultations and fittings. The interiors reflect Mr. Balana’s consistent design language, using a colour scheme that includes terracotta, Jaipuri gulabi, violet, and a muted olive called Kaccha Aam. Arched wall frames, curtain tassels, and sculptural accents create an atmosphere that feels thoughtful without being overwhelming.

With a welcoming, cohesive atmosphere, it gives both familiar faces and first-time visitors an opportunity to see how the label continues to grow, while staying true to the values it was built on.
