Indian designer Anita Dongre has opened a 3,000-square-foot store on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, becoming the first Indian designer to establish a presence in this retail district. This is her fourth international location, following stores in New York City and The Dubai Mall, and it signals a calculated move into one of the world’s most competitive luxury markets.

The store brings Dongre’s philosophy of mindful luxury to Beverly Hills. Visitors will find a curated selection of handcrafted couture, ready-to-wear pieces, and accessories that celebrate Indian craftsmanship through a contemporary lens. The approach is deliberate: connecting heritage techniques with modern sensibilities without compromising either.
Actresses Mindy Kaling and Poorna Jagannathan co-hosted the launch, drawing a crowd that included Jay Shetty, Radhika Shetty, Anjula Acharia, Payal Kadakia, Francia Raisa, Ramona Young, Lee Rodriguez, Deepica Mutyala, Amrit Kaur, Ami Desai, Nidhi Sunil, and Richa Moorjani. Their attendance highlighted the intersection of South Asian representation in Hollywood and global fashion, underscoring the cultural significance of this opening beyond its commercial implications.

The interior design reimagines modern-day Rajasthan as a sanctuary that pays homage to Indian artistry. Hand-painted Pichhwai walls depict flora and fauna throughout the space. Embroidered cushions, bespoke wallpaper, and custom furnishings have been handcrafted by artisans across India, creating an immersive experience that bridges the country’s craft heritage with contemporary design sensibilities.

A striking installation features an elephant matriarch and calf from The Great Elephant Migration, a global art movement that supports sustainability and indigenous craftsmanship. Indian artisan communities created these sculptures using invasive lantana weeds, transforming an environmental challenge into art. The installation connects conservation, compassion, and conscious luxury, values that have defined Dongre’s brand identity.

The Indian designer said, “Every creation we make is touched by the hands of skilled women artisans whose stories and traditions inspire our work. Bringing their artistry to Beverly Hills is not only about fashion, it’s about giving India’s craftspeople the global platform they so deeply deserve.”
Dongre has built her career in Rajasthan, working to preserve India’s handloom and embroidery traditions while creating sustainable livelihoods for thousands of craftspeople. Her business model connects these artisans with global markets, proving that traditional craft can generate contemporary demand.

House of Anita Dongre now operates stores across India, New York City, Dubai, and Los Angeles. The Beverly Hills location positions her work in direct competition with European fashion houses that have spent decades building recognition in the U.S. luxury market. It’s a proof of the growing prominence of Indian luxury brands in the global landscape. This opening also tests whether American consumers are willing to invest in Indian craftsmanship at comparable price points to established Western brands.
