Loewe’s Fall-Winter 2025 collection was artistic and thoughtful. Creative director Jonathan Anderson once again pushed the boundaries of fashion, presenting his vision through a cross-disciplinary format.
Staged at the historic Hôtel de Maisons in Paris, the line-up was an inspired collaboration with the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, bringing modernist abstraction into Loewe’s rich craftsmanship.
Mr. Anderson approached the collection as a “scrapbook of ideas,” playing with exaggerated proportions, and intricate textures. Each design reflected a deep engagement with artistic heritage and artisanal craft, reinforcing Loewe’s status as a house that thrives on intellectual and visual experimentation.
The line-up was unveiled across 17 themed rooms, each offering an immersive experience where fashion conversed with art. Among the standout art pieces were British artist Anthea Hamilton’s Giant Pumpkin No 2 (2022) and a monumental apple, first introduced in the brand’s Spring-Summer 2025 pre-collection campaign.
The geometric abstraction and colours of Josef Albers’ series Homage to the Square transformed Puzzle, Flamenco and Amazona bags. Ms. Albers’ pioneering textile work was translated into tactile surfaces on coats and handbags, enriching the collection with a graphic, almost architectural quality.
Menswear and womenswear were designed in an organic continuum, emphasizing a shared visual language rather than rigid distinctions. Silhouettes were sculptural yet fluid, with leather manipulated into draped, elongated forms, while jersey dresses took on rounded, sculptural shapes.
Anderson’s play on scale turned the ordinary into the extraordinary. Rings were reimagined as tops, and tricot stitches were enlarged into dramatic proportions.
Elsewhere, a classic Prince of Wales check appeared to dissolve into metallic fringes, and intricate beading migrated beyond garments to embellish accessories and Toy mules.
During his 11 years run with the brand, the British designer has masterfully woven a unique dialogue between past and present, art and craftsmanship. He leaves after turning Loewe into a culture-rich, highly visible brand with robust sales. The Spanish brand reported an astounding 62% increase in profits for 2023. However, Loewe has officially announced that Ms. Anderson is stepping down.
Speculation is rife that he may be headed to Dior to succeed Kim Jones, though nothing has been confirmed. This departure could mark the end of an era for the Spanish house as it embarks on a new chapter.
