Delnaz Mistry for Ashdeen Lilaowala.
As the brand remains rooted in its tradition, Mr. Lilaowala’s work is imbued with a captivating narrative, and this exhibition faithfully mirrors and encapsulates the essence of his sentiment behind the stories.
In collaboration with the renowned photographer, Rema Chaudhary, the brand has immortalized invaluable moments within frames. The series, titled ‘Threads: A Decade of Ashdeen,’ graced the walls of Mr. Lilaowala’s flagship store in Colaba, Mumbai.
The portraits, shot by Ms. Chaudhary, show Mr. Lilaowala’s ‘subjects’ – all dressed in saris and clothing embroidered in the Parsi Gara tradition— many of them from the ASHDEEN label. Some of the exceptional women photographed include Dr. Niloufer Shroff, Physicist & Community worker, New Delhi; Roshan Cama, Homemaker & Adventurer, Vadodara; Malini Banerji, Fashion Editor & Creative Director, New Delhi; Mala Sinha, Textile Designer & Founder, Bodhi, Vadodara; Delna Mistry, Entrepreneur & Founder, DLC, Mumbai; Aditi Ranjan, Textile Designer, Researcher and Author, Bengaluru; and Shernaz Lilaowala, Entrepreneur & Mothership, Mumbai.
Alongside the photos, the brand also released its latest exquisite collection, ‘Birth of Venus.’ Original embroidery designs from the Parsi Gara lexicon again make a grand appearance in the sari collection.
These saris showcase opulent floral tapestries and intricately hand-embroidered borders, boasting a stunning array of colors including emerald greens, subtle greys, deep blacks, vibrant mango yellows, and a variety of other exquisite shades.
