AstaGuru presents rare and remarkable modern Indian art in its ‘Collectors Choice’ auction

Extraordinary art works by Indian modernists, such as M.F. Husain, Amrita Sher Gil, S.H. Raza, and more, will go under the hammer.

Indian auction house AstaGuru will display masterpieces and rare compositions from different periods of Modern Indian Art for its next auction. The collection is a testament to the artistic sensibilities and creativity of the artists who have introduced Indian art in the modern world. An intriguing collection, bidding for all these highly prized artworks will commence at INR 20,000.

Manjot Bawa – Lot 83 – at AstaGuru’s Collectors Choice auction


Around 200 lots of exceptional creations by revered names such as Nicholas Roerich, Rabindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, S. H. Raza, Jehangir Sabavala, Akbar Padamsee, K H Ara, Arpana Caur, and Manu Parekh, and several other eminent artists are presented at the auction.

F.N. Souza – Lot 169 – at AstaGuru’s Collectors Choice auction


With five works in different mediums, the auction showcases the ground breaking contributions of multifaceted genius, M.F. Husain. Lot no. 183 is an untitled still life work. Executed in 1993 with acrylic on canvas, it will be offered with an estimate of INR 60,00,000 – 80,00,000.  Lot no 30. is an untitled woodcut work which was also showcased at Husain Ki Sarai in Faridabad, Haryana. Executed in 1992 with acrylic on wood, it is estimated to be sold at INR 20,00,000 – 25,00,000.

M. F. Husain – Lot 183 – at AstaGuru’s Collectors Choice auction


Titled ‘Holi’, a signature style Bindu work by artist S.H. Raza will appear at the auction for the first time. It is offered with an estimate of INR 20,00,000 – 30,00,000. Lot no. 14 is a work by Amrita Sher-Gil, a prodigious artistic prowess, and this work will be offered at an estimate of INR 15, 00,000 – 20, 00,000.

Anjolie Ela Menon – Lot 151 – at AstaGuru’s Collectors Choice auction


Another highlight of the auction is artworks with charcoal as a medium. An untitled work by Manjit Bawa, lot no. 83, was executed in 2000 and has been a part of several important exhibitions and publications, including ‘Lets Paint the Sky Red: Manjit Bawa’ by Vadehra Art Gallery in 2011. This work is offered at an estimate of INR 35,00,000 – 45,00,000. A Manjit Bawa artwork of Durga, in fact, was recently auctioned by Christie’s for $11.9 million.

The auction will be held on March 29-30, 2023.
