Franck Muller shines the spotlight on Damascus Steel with its latest collection

At first glance, the watches looks suave and sublime.

Swiss watch manufacturer Franck Muller has been a very significant name in the watch industry since the late 1980s. Yet again the brand shows its prowess in watchmaking with its latest collection, the ‘Vanguard collection’. Drawing inspiration from the art of metallurgy, each piece is meticulously crafted with the protagonist of the collection – Damascus Steel.

The lineup features two dramatic, sporty watches: The Vanguard Damas Racing and The Vanguard Damas Skeleton. Each piece has its dials and case enhanced with Damascus Steel. The special material adds a distinctive appeal and a strong character to the watch.

The Damascus Steel was crafted using two types of non-magnetic stainless steel and features a unique grain design. Damascus steel – originating from the Middle eastern city of Damas in Syria, is a material that can be shaped as desired. Requiring a special process that Franck Muller mastered in-house, its design is naturally revealed when immersed in an acid bath, giving rise to a unique timepiece that is unlike any other in the collection, since the acid gives varied patterns to each watch.

These Vanguard models have a power reserve of 42 hours and are water-resistant to 30 meters. The watches will be available in a leather-covered rubber strap with a folding clasp – also made of the Damascus steel.
