Indian couture stepped onto a new stage as designers Shantanu & Nikhil unveiled their first-ever womenswear couture collection at Moscow Fashion Week. The showcase marks the global debut of their all-women’s couture line and adds a new chapter to the duo’s two-decade journey of redefining Indian menswear couture through bold silhouettes and narratives of defiance.

The collection, titled Armouré, takes cues from the 1930s, an era that saw women claim space with confidence, charm, and a quiet resistance. That influence translates into pieces that balance architecture and ease, structured shapes softened by flowing drapes, surface treatments built on cascading crystals, pearl-dotted embroideries, and metallic brocades.

The palette extends from commanding reds and deep blacks to fluid silvers and luminous pearls, offering contrasts that mirror both intimacy and strength. Each look, the designers note, is conceived for women who embrace glamour as power, standing on their own terms.

For Shantnu & Nikhil, the choice of Moscow was deliberate. The city, with its mix of imperial history and modern luxury appetite, resonates with the dualities their design often explores. The duo said, “Moscow represents a cultural crossroad, steeped in imperial legacy yet brimming with contemporary appetite for couture. Our debut here is more than a showcase; it is a statement of intent. Through this collection, we explore the paradox of the modern woman: sensual yet armored, intimate yet resistant. This stage allows us to narrate that story to the world. Also, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has played a pivotal role in shaping this cultural bridge between India and Russia, with Chairman Sunil Sethi championing the presence of Indian fashion and craftsmanship to a global audience.”

The event itself carries scale and weight. Moscow Fashion Week brought together 220 designers from 10 countries between August 28 and September 2, 2025. Alongside the shows, the BRICS+ Fashion Summit convened leaders, institutions, and experts from over 65 countries, with discussions centered on sustainability, innovation, and the evolving direction of global fashion. Within this framework, Shantnu & Nikhil’s debut contributed an Indian perspective to the ongoing dialogue around creativity and couture.

Their participation also holds significance beyond fashion. Denis Alipov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of India, said, “Shantnu & Nikhil embody a contemporary vision that reflects the rich cultural heritage and modern creativity of India. Their debut at Moscow Fashion Week marks a significant milestone in strengthening cultural ties between Russia and India. Through fashion, this collaboration celebrates national identity, craftsmanship, and the dynamic evolution of design, fostering dialogue within the global fashion community.”

With Armouré, Shantnu & Nikhil are positioning Indian couture within a broader global context, not only presenting their womenswear line for the first time but also engaging with conversations around culture, identity, and design on an international stage. Their Moscow debut stands as both a showcase of creativity and a step toward a larger exchange between India and the world.
