Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur has announced partnerships with two of the most recognised chefs in the world, Garima Arora and Jean-Georges Vongerichten, to open five restaurants at its upcoming property ahead of its late 2026 launch. It is one of the most significant culinary line-ups assembled for a hotel opening in Southeast Asia in recent years.

Chef Arora’s restaurant at the hotel will be called Yaari, which means friendship in Hindi. Her restaurant Gaa in Bangkok is one of Asia’s most awarded restaurants with two Michelin stars. In 2018, she became the first Indian female chef to lead a Michelin-starred kitchen, a landmark moment that went well beyond the food industry. She has since been named Asia’s Best Female Chef, with her restaurant regularly listed in Asia’s 50 Best.
Yaari will cover the full range of Indian cooking, from tangy curries of the southern coast to smoky kebabs from the north, with street foods like chaat reimagined as refined dishes and a dessert menu rooted in traditional Indian sweets called mithais.
“Yaari will celebrate the extraordinary diversity of Indian cuisine in ways that feel both authentic and contemporary. Yaari is born from my passion for storytelling through food, celebrating heritage, creativity and the joyful experience of sharing a meal. I am eager to welcome guests to explore these progressive concepts in the dynamic culinary landscape of Kuala Lumpur,” Chef Arora said.

Jean-Georges Vongerichten has been one of the most influential chefs in fine dining for over four decades. His flagship restaurant in New York holds two Michelin stars, and his group runs restaurants across Paris, Shanghai, and several other major cities. At Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, he will open three separate restaurants. JG KL is his main fine dining concept, combining French cooking techniques with Asian flavours and a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. abc kitchens KL brings together the ideas behind his three well-known New York restaurants, the produce-driven abc kitchen, the vegetable-focused abcV, and the Latin-inspired abc cocina, into one space adapted for a tropical setting. The Bar by JG rounds out his presence at the hotel, offering smaller dishes and drinks in a more relaxed social environment, built on his consistent focus on freshness and balance.
“Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur brings a unique opportunity to combine a collection of gastronomic experiences that reflect a global perspective alongside a deep respect for place. Malaysia‘s rich cultural tapestry and vibrant food heritage provide an inspiring backdrop, and I look forward to creating moments that elevate familiar flavours with refined technique,” Chef Vongerichten said.
Running three different restaurants with distinct identities inside one hotel is something Chef Vongerichten’s group has the experience to deliver. His abc kitchens concept has worked in New York precisely because it holds several different dining styles under one roof without any of them feeling compromised. That same logic applies naturally to a hotel, where guests have different moods, occasions, and appetites across a single stay.

Candice D’Cruz, Vice President of Luxury Brands, Asia Pacific at Hilton, said, “Delivering unforgettable moments that delight our guests is at the heart of the Waldorf Astoria ethos. Today, gastronomy is one of the most compelling drivers of luxury travel. Through collaborations with visionary chefs like Garima Arora and Jean-Georges Vongerichten, we continue to build on the brand’s storied legacy of culinary excellence while curating immersive dining experiences that connect global expertise with the rich cultural narrative of Kuala Lumpur.”
Kuala Lumpur already has a strong and growing fine dining scene, with a local crowd that eats out seriously and knows good food. Five concepts have been confirmed so far, with more restaurants still to be announced before the hotel opens. General Manager Etienne Dalançon said, “Culinary innovation and excellence have always been central to the Waldorf Astoria experience. These partnerships underscore Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur’s ambition to create a world-class culinary destination with one-of-a-kind dining concepts that connect guests and locals with the spirit of Kuala Lumpur.”
