Hublot & artist Daniel Arsham create ripples with the Arsham Droplet.

The horological masterpiece in signature Arsham green is pop art rendered in product form.

Hublot invited the contemporary artist Daniel Arsham for a revolutionizing timepiece, who obliged with the Arsham Droplet. The duo has reinterpreted the classic, humble pocket watch, giving the antique form an exciting, futuristic makeover.

The chronograph, inspired by droplets and the poetic melody of water, lends itself to the flexibility of being worn as a pocket watch, a pendant, accompanied by two titanium chains inbuilt with Hublot’s double ‘one-click’ patent, or a stunning table clock resting on a titanium and mineral glass ‘bubble’ stand.

This marks Mr. Arsham’s first timepiece as an official Hublot ambassador. The New York-based artist’s practice transcends fine art, architecture, performance, and film. The friend of the house is acclaimed for his unique method of morphing mundane objects into “future relics.”

He has used a patina green that also adorns his Greco-Roman sculptures and his design collabs, such as the knitted adidas Futurecraft 4D ‘Aero Green’ sneaker and the 3D rock sink for Koehler. In the Hublot X Daniel Arsham Droplet, this unique green lines the case, dial, hands, manual winding movement, and open-worked framework of the teardrop-shaped pocket watch. Derived from the organic fluid forms found in nature, the Arsham Droplet symbolizes a true milestone in the world of horology.

Talking about the collaboration, Mr. Arsham said, “I’ve been watching Hublot and the projects it has supported in the contemporary art space with great interest for many years and admired its audacious approach to watchmaking, design, and craft. The Art of Fusion remains one of the smartest projects in watchmaking. I love how Hublot crafts ideas, influences, and materials together to create unique, defining forms.”

The three-in-one watch has a titanium case displaying a side bumper made of custom-made Daniel Arsham rubber and etched with his initials. Two domed crystals protect the front and back, and the titanium framework is held together by a double-sealing system with 17 O-ring seals.

Incorporated within the bulbous end of the teardrop case is another round case fitted with Hublot’s six signature H-shaped screws. This marvel of precision engineering bolsters an open-worked dial that provides clear views of the stellar in-house HUB1201 Manufacture Meca-10 manual winding movement, made from 223 parts and 24 jewels, that ensures an unparalleled 10-day/240-hour power reserve.

The dial, coated in semi-matt varnish, furnishes lume-applied Arsham green hour and minute hands and matching bullet-shaped indices. Mr. Arsham’s logo sits in place of the 12 o’clock hour marker, which also features across the entire expanse of the caseback. The watch can be worn as a neck piece or rest on the table to be admired. Capped at just 99 pieces, the Arsham Droplet is a true collector’s item.

Hublot CEO, Ricardo Guadalupe, says, “Working with Daniel, we made the impossible possible! The Arsham Droplet is a testament to Hublot’s unwavering dedication to pushing the boundaries of both form and function. This groundbreaking timepiece is a true work of art, seamlessly blending our horological expertise with Daniel Arsham’s visionary artistic vision.”
