March 28, 2024: Attention all secret agents and jewelry aficionados! You might want to take a peek at the Fabergé x 007 collection before MI6 catches wind of it. Renowned brand Fabergé has teamed up with the legendary James Bond franchise to unveil the first of the Fabergé x 007 capsule collection to celebrate the 007 archive. It draws inspiration from the beloved James Bond film Octopussy (1983) and features a hand-crafted limited-edition egg objet and a special edition egg surprise locket, both embodying the sophistication and intrigue synonymous with the world of Bond.
Not so surprisingly, the jewelry house chose the 1983 film for inspiration, given how it features a plot line centered around an elaborate Fabergé egg heist.
Crafted under the meticulous eye of Fabergé's Head of Design, Liisa Tallgren, and overseen by Creative Director, Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell, the Fabergé x 007 Limited Edition Octopussy Egg Objet is limited to just 50 pieces.
The egg's exterior closely mirrors the design of the Fabergé egg seen in the film Octopussy, featuring an exquisite lattice framework crafted from 18k gold. The surface of the egg showcases a geometric guilloché engraved pattern, offering a striking contrast to its organic shape.
Each piece is meticulously decorated with green enamel to complement the overall design. Additionally, subtle nods to the film are incorporated, such as the locket's bail, inspired by the letter 'O' in the film's title. At the top of the egg, you can see a gleaming gold 007 logo. Upon opening, an 18k yellow-gold octopus emerges, its tentacles adorned with sparkling white diamond suckers and mesmerizing black diamond eyes.
Ms. Bussche-Kessell said, “Whilst work is continuing on the development of a large-scale one-of-a-kind Fabergé x 007 Egg Objet, we’re very proud to be unveiling this Octopussy capsule collection. Continuing our special partnership with EON Productions and the James Bond franchise we decided the surprise inside this first capsule collection had to be an octopus, in dedication to the eponymous antagonist at the heart of the film. ‘Octopussy’ is a powerful businesswoman and jewel-smuggler who leads the all-female Octopus Cult, and her name derives from her favourite octopus, the Blue Ringed Octopus, which she keeps as a pet. The octopus surprise inside the Fabergé x 007 Egg Objet and Egg Surprise Locket encapsulates her strong character.”
