Montblanc celebrates the legacy of the 3x heavyweight champion of the world, Muhammad Ali

Not often do you see the world of classic writing instrument craftsmanship merge with the world of sports.

After exploring the world of traveling, Montblanc steps into the sports realm for inspiration. Muhammad Ali, the legendary boxer, is celebrated for his exceptional athleticism, unparalleled charisma, and unwavering commitment to social justice. His lightning-fast footwork and powerful punches earned him the nickname “The Greatest,” while his courage and convictions outside the ring left an indelible mark on the world. Comprising three unique editions, each symbolizing one of his three significant triumphs (1964, 1974, and 1978), the Montblanc Great Characters Muhammad Ali Collection’s design spotlights various facets of his extraordinary life and enduring impact.

The design incorporates elements like the boxing ring ropes represented by engraved lines, a punchbag-shaped cap, and hand protection bandages in matte black precious resin. Specific victories are marked with inscriptions and a laurel wreath on the clip. The solid gold nib is engraved with a boxer’s gloves, symbolizing his reputation built through both athletic and civil accomplishments. The title belt Muhammad Ali wore inspired the design of the skeletonized clip, inscribed with ‘ALI’.

The Montblanc Great Characters Muhammad Ali Limited Edition 1942 pays homage to Muhammad Ali’s birth year with a yellow gold-coated bandage design and four green lacquered lines symbolizing the boxing ring ropes.

Inspired by his iconic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ fight in 1974, the pen features a white and black lacquer pattern with gold intarsia on the cap. Engravings commemorate his victory and the cap top displays the number ‘2’ to mark his second world title. Mr. Ali’s victories in two consecutive years are commemorated on the pen’s cone as “KINSHASA 1974 QUEZON CITY 1975.” The cap displays a lacquered butterfly.

The Montblanc Great Characters Muhammad Ali Limited Edition 98 features hanging boxing gloves on the cap, hand-engraved in solid Au 750 gold. The cap resembles a punchbag, and blue guilloche lacquering creates a bandage-like texture. The inscription ‘W 15 (15)’ on the cap ring marks his victory against Leon Spinks in 1978, with the number ‘3’ on the cap top. The cone’s two blue lines symbolize his third World Championship title. The cone engraving ‘New Orleans 1978 New York 1998’ reflects his achievements as an athlete and humanitarian, marking his third title win and designation as a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
