Those who have read ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ by Jules Verne, can never forget the sense of purpose, adventure, and travel that the novel presented. It was not just a magical journey through continents, but an inspirational one too.
Aiming to recreate that very sense of adventure, Montblanc launched the first installment of ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ collection in 2021. In the novel, the author narrates the story of Phileas Fogg, a London gentleman and his valet Passepartout’s extraordinary journey through foreign lands and perilous paths in just 80 days. The first edition took inspiration from the fascinating trip of Mr. Fogg from Suez Canal to Bombay.
This year sees the arrival of the second edition of the collection that picks up from where the last journey ended. The pen collection, with four editions, takes us back to the time when Mr. Fogg traversed from Bombay to Yokohama. The writing instruments recapture the epic trip through India, China and their arrival in Japan, and presents the most enchanting designs reminiscent of these cultures.
The Limited Edition 811 features a cap made of Ag925 sterling silver and the barrel is decorated with a Au750 solid gold inlay inspired by the five coins of the Qing Dynasty. The gold nib is engraved with a Princess Aouda-inspired jewelry design in 1.5mm ruby, and a mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem crowns the writing instrument.
Solitaire Le Grand has a cap and barrel made of wood with a burnt color effect to represent Princess Aouda’s rescue from the clutches of fire ritual.
For the Resin LeGrand & Classique, the cap and barrel are made of anthracite-colored precious resin while the Doué Classique flaunts a metal barrel covered in a degraded anthracite lacquer and a gold-coated cap engraved with Indian, Chinese, Japanese good luck patterns.
All the pens have caps adorned with a cartouche to illustrate the majestic elephant Kiouni that carried the men through the jungle, and are available as a fountain pen, a rollerball or ballpoint.
The adventure collection is enhanced with a stationery set which includes a leather notebook again with an elephant appearing on the cover and a special ink color in anthracite.
The collection ends with the Meisterstück Tribute to the Book Around the World in 80 Days Club & Diamond Cufflinks in stainless steel and mother-of-pearl with the card suit design, and the Meisterstück Bracelet Tribute to the Book Around the World in 80 Days Ace of Club & Diamond and is available at Montblanc boutiques worldwide and online.
