What began more than a century ago as the shared vision of three men, Messrs. Oakley, Bowden, and Taylor, has grown into one of India’s most respected names in handmade carpets. Their initials came together to form the name Obeetee, marking the start of a journey that redefined carpet-making and helped establish India’s global reputation for artisanal excellence. Over the years, Obeetee’s creations have found their way into royal residences, government institutions, and contemporary homes, symbolising both heritage and modernity.

In 2025, the brand is entering a new phase with the launch of Obeetee Carpets and Homes, a step that transforms it from a carpet maker into a complete home décor brand. Supported by an investment of over ₹100 crores, this new vertical brings Obeetee’s craftsmanship into furniture, bedding, cushions, and furnishings. The brand plans to make its new collections available across stores nationwide and online, allowing customers to experience Obeetee’s legacy in every corner of their living spaces.
Leading this evolution is Rudra Chatterjee, Chairman of Obeetee, who has focused on building “a culture of creativity, professionalism, and social responsibility.” Alongside him, Angelique Dhama, President of the company, has played a pivotal role in shaping Obeetee’s identity as a modern luxury lifestyle brand. Together, they have strengthened the company’s global presence, established seven flagship stores in India, and initiated plans for international expansion. Their approach has combined business growth with a commitment to community, sustainability, and design integrity.

The first offerings under Obeetee Carpets and Homes include two major launches that extend the brand’s design language beyond its looms. The furniture collection features solid Indian teak wood paired with Italian Carrara marble accents, brass-plated embellishments, and antique wood finishes. Each piece is offered in nine upholstery options, with prices ranging from ₹21,000 to ₹3,00,000.
Complementing this, the bedding collection focuses on comfort and understated elegance, with 100% cotton percale sets available in six serene shades, embroidered pillow covers, and linen-blend duvet and quilted bed covers crafted from cotton, chenille, modal, and voile in five calming colours.

While design remains central to Obeetee’s identity, its foundation lies in the community that built it. From its base in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, the brand works with over 25,000 artisans and employs more than 1,500 people directly. It operates 5,000 looms and tufting frames, making it one of the largest employers of craftspeople in the region. These artisans continue to use hand-knotting and tufting traditions passed down through generations, while embracing contemporary design sensibilities.
Obeetee’s carpets are crafted from natural fibers, with eco-conscious dyeing and finishing techniques that align with the company’s sustainability goals. The brand was also the first carpet company to receive the SA 8000:2001 certification for Social Accountability, reaffirming its commitment to ethical and responsible practices.

Beyond production, Obeetee has long invested in social impact. Its initiatives in children’s education, women’s vocational training, public health, sanitation, and environmental conservation have positively influenced thousands of families. By nurturing a self-sustaining ecosystem around its artisans, Obeetee has managed to preserve traditional skills while ensuring long-term community welfare.
This expansion comes at a time when India’s home interiors market, currently valued at $12.33 billion, is expected to grow to $24.5 billion by 2030. Rising disposable incomes, evolving design preferences, and the shift toward more personalised home spaces are driving this change. With Obeetee Carpets and Homes, the brand is well positioned to meet this demand by combining functionality with its century-old artistry.

Looking forward, Obeetee plans to expand its retail footprint, introduce exclusive online platforms, and collaborate with designers to bring fresh creative perspectives to its collections. The company also aims to strengthen its international presence, sharing India’s design heritage across global markets.
From its beginnings in Mirzapur to its growing presence around the world, Obeetee continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. With Obeetee Carpets and Homes, the brand moves into a new era, one that merges legacy with lifestyle, bringing the essence of Indian artistry into every home with purpose and quiet confidence
