Montblanc is famous for its legendary writing instruments, but their foray into horology is nothing short of spectacular. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of their iconic Meisterstück pens, Montblanc had to create something truly extraordinary. And it didn’t disappoint. Here, we have the Limited Edition Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Skeleton, inspired by the spirit of Enheduanna, the daughter of Sargon of Akkad, and history’s first-known author.
Limited to just 10 pieces, this 44.80mm, 18-karat yellow gold timepiece dazzles with an onyx dial engraved with an extract from Enheduanna’s Temple Hymns. In place of the traditional logo, the Montblanc name is translated into Sumerian symbols for “white” and “mountain,” adding a touch of ancient elegance. Montblanc has successfully merged its love for literature with impeccable watchmaking in this stunning piece.
Enheduanna, who penned religious poetry and hymns in 2300 B.C.E., pioneered first-person writing and claimed authorship with her works, including The Exaltation of Inanna, which has been studied for over 500 years. This timepiece is a beautiful homage to her enduring legacy and timeless influence on literature.
Beneath the off-centered dial, an 18-karat yellow gold engraving of Enheduanna graces the Exo-Tourbillon. The crescent moon at 12 o’clock and bull horns at 3 o’clock symbolize the moon god Nanna, while a frieze inspired by the Royal Game of Ur and Sumerian numbers add a touch of ancient heritage.
The patented Suspended Exo Tourbillon movement, developed over three years by Montblanc’s master watchmakers in Villeret, is a marvel of innovation. The term “Exo,” derived from Greek, signifies the external placement of the large balance wheel, which is situated outside the tourbillon’s rotating cage. This design allows the balance wheel to be more visible and aesthetically striking while maintaining the movement’s compact size. The wheel, elevated 3.2mm above the dial, appears to float, enhancing the tourbillon’s visual appeal and efficiency.
This setup also conserves energy compared to traditional tourbillons, thanks to the smaller cage and reduced weight. The movement, caliber MB M16.69, features a hand-wound Manufacture German silver skeleton with an anthracite ruthenium treatment, blending historical elegance with contemporary design.
The limited edition timepiece, the Montblanc Star Legacy Exo Tourbillon Skeleton Enheduanna, is presented in a case inspired by the Great Ziggurat of Ur. This stone-covered case, engraved with extracts from Enheduanna’s Temple Hymns, serves as both a display base and a tribute to the ancient writer’s legacy.
The Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Skeleton, brilliantly pays tribute to Enheduanna, bringing together history, mythology, and exceptional craftsmanship.
